About

Dr. Romain Barrès obtained his PhD from the University of Nice Côte d'Azur (formerly the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis) on the insulin signaling pathway in adipocytes. He then conducted his postdoctoral studies in the laboratory of Professor Juleen Zierath at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, where he studied the influence of physical activity on DNA methylation in skeletal muscle. In 2009, he was appointed Lecturer at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.

In 2010, he joined the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR), located at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, as Director of the Environmental Epigenetics Laboratory.

Since 2022, he has been Director of Research at IPMC and head of the Epigenetics and Metabolism Team.

He also heads the Gametic Epigenetic Consortium against Obesity (GECKO), an international consortium working to understand the ancestral causes of obesity.

Her research interests focus on the influence of environmental factors such as nutrition and physical activity on the long-term health of metabolic tissues as well as preconception effects on the health of offspring.
