Presentation

Founded in 1989, the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology (IPMC) is a research center located on the exceptional site of Sophia Antipolis, the leading European technology park: 2,500 companies, 10,000 students and researchers, and the presence of the main French research institutes in the field of biological sciences.

The IPMC is a joint research unit of the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), the University of Côte d'Azur (UniCA), and the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm). A world reference center for the study of ion transport, the Institute has progressively broadened its scope of investigation. Its 22 teams conduct research ranging from the molecule to the organism in fields as diverse as pharmacology, physiology, and functional genomics. This work aims to define the dysfunctions associated with numerous pathologies and is applied to the development and evaluation of new diagnostics and treatments for cancer, epilepsy, and metabolic, renal, neurovascular, and neurodegenerative diseases.

The research teams benefit from a high-level technological environment in molecular and cellular biology, imaging, cytometry, biomolecule analysis, electrophysiology, functional genomics and integrative biology.

Within a high-performance network

The IPMC is working to develop biology at the Nice-Sophia Antipolis site with:

– scientific organizations and foundations;
– industries, either directly or through competitiveness clusters, or by contributing to the creation of biotechnology start-ups.

Scientific excellence

IPMC researchers are working on new therapeutic targets associated with human diseases. Through their study of the major functions of living organisms, they are involved in numerous programs of excellence within the government's Future Investment Programs (Future Investment Programs) :
