About
Biography
Ms. Carole Rovère is Senior Research Fellow at INSERM. She joined Dr. Jean-Louis Nahon's team at the IPMC in January 2002, before joining the team in January 2024 «"Epigenetics and Metabolism"» led by Dr. Romain Barrès. Within this team, she develops and funds her own research themes, while also supervising students and young researchers for many years.
She recently supervised the doctoral thesis of Ms. Clara Sanchez (defended in 2023), now a postdoctoral researcher at the Karolinska Institute (Stockholm), as well as that of a postdoctoral researcher, Ms. Selma Ben Fradj (2021–2023), now a lecturer in Nancy. She is currently supervising the doctoral thesis of Ms. Lou Ruffino, in joint supervision with Dr. Arnaud Droit (Université Laval, Quebec), which focuses on the impact of nanoplastics and phthalates from ultra-processed foods on brain disorders.
His recent works, published in 2024 in Brain, Immunity and Behavior These findings, widely reported in the media, have highlighted that a high imbalance in the omega-6/omega-3 ratio—particularly linked to high sunflower oil consumption—induces increased inflammation in several organs in mice, especially the liver and adipose tissue. These results contribute to understanding the mechanisms associated with the metabolic complications observed in humans with excess body fat.
In parallel, Carole Rovère is involved in numerous national and international research projects. She notably coordinates the ANR RANTES project (until 2026) and participates in the MicroFlamEAT project. She is also a partner in the European HORIZON program. PsyCoMed and has obtained several grants from the University of Côte d'Azur (IDEX).
Deeply involved in the scientific community, she actively participates in evaluation and governance bodies. She has been a member of the Inserm Neuroscience Committee (CSS4) since 2021, a member of the Scientific Council of Academy 3 at Université Côte d'Azur since 2023, and served on the EUR LIFE project monitoring committee (CoSP) from 2020 to 2024. Since January 2025, she has been the secretary of the French Society of Neuroendocrinology and was elected to its Board of Directors as the representative of the "Neuroendocrinology and Integrated Physiology" group for the 2025–2029 term.
She also provides more than 60 hours of teaching per year, notably in master's programs (University of Rouen, University Côte d'Azur), as well as at Polytech Nice in the teaching units of pharmacology and integrative biology.
Recognized for her scientific communication skills, she is regularly invited to present her work at national and international conferences and contributes to the organization of scientific events. In particular, she chaired the organizing committee of the 46th Symposium of the French Society of Neuroendocrinology, the first France-Canada symposium, held in Nice in September 2024. She also organized and moderated symposia at NeuroFrance 2025 in Montpellier and at the 10th Congress of the Mediterranean Neuroscience Society in 2025 in Chania, Crete.
Deeply committed to the dialogue between science and society, she actively participates in science outreach events such as the Science Festival and Brain Awareness Week, coordinating their activities on the French Riviera. She has chaired the organizing committee since 2009. In this capacity, she was awarded a grant of €150,000 in 2023 from the French National Research Agency (ANR) under the program "Science with and for Society – Innovative Ambitions," aimed at strengthening interactions between researchers and civil society and encouraging interdisciplinarity.
Her work has been recognized with several awards, including the Medisite Foundation Neuroscience Prize and the Benjamin Delessert Institute Research Prize in 2018, for her research on obesity, which she continues at the IPMC.
