Présentation
Mounia Chami received her Doctoral degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Paris XI. Under the guidance of Prof Cristian Bréchot and Prof Patrizia Paterlini-Bréchot, she investigated the mechanisms underlying apoptosis associated with hepatitis B and hepatitis C viruses.
She subsequently joined the laboratory of Prof. Rosario Rizzuto at the University of Ferrara with an EMBO postdoctoral fellowship. Later, she obtained a Junior INSERM researcher contract and joined the laboratory of Prof Patrizia Paterlini-Bréchot. During this period, Mounia Chami specialized in subcellular calcium signaling and the dynamics and functions of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and mitochondria.
Mounia Chami was later appointed as a team leader at the Italian Institute of Technology in the Department of Neuroscience, headed by Prof Fabio Benfenati, where she initiated her research on Alzheimer’s disease (AD). She then obtained a permanent INSERM senior researcher position. As a principal investigator in Dr Frédéric Checler’s team at the IPMC; Mounia Chami led research projects exploring the mechanisms and impacts of ER calcium signaling deregulations and mitochondrial disturbances in AD.
Since 2024, Mounia Chami has been leading the AlzPark team.
