About

Originating from the legacy of Pierre Duban, the Bernadette and Pierre Duban Foundation was created to award annually to a researcher a prize of €40,000, recognizing research carried out exclusively on Alzheimer's and degenerative brain diseases.

Hélène Marie is a research director at the CNRS, co-head of the "Physiopathology of neuronal circuits and behavior" team at the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology, in Valbonne, where she is the deputy director.

Molecules that disrupt brain communication in Alzheimer's disease She studies changes in communication between neurons and their contribution to memory loss in Alzheimer's disease. Her team has highlighted the involvement of small molecules, called peptides, resulting from the cleavage of the brain protein APP (amyloid precursor protein). She recently identified a new peptide, named AETA, and showed that it alters the transmission of information between neurons by regulating a receptor essential for learning and memory. This is a significant advance in understanding the disease. .https://www.frm.org/fr/actualites/portrait-helene-marie
