We investigate the validity of Fisher-KPP type reaction-diffusion models for simulating cell sheet migration. To this end, we performed experimental observations on MDCK cell monolayers. The resulting videocopies were segmented and binarized, allowing for the precise determination of area variations and scar front profiles. We compared the calculated front variations to those of the experimental fronts, after a parameter calibration step. We conclude that, depending on the presence of activators or inhibitors, the F-KPP equations can model monolayer front dynamics well, moderately, or not at all.
