The low availability of existing light at the low dose of the forest influences the growth, the production and survival of the trees and the distribution of the biomass annually and at the level of the plant in the species that pass una part or all of its life in dark conditions. Berberis serrato-dentata (Berberidaceae), is a evergreen shrub tolerant of darkness and restricted habitat. Crece the base of the deciduous forest of Nothofagus pumilio present at an altitude of 1100 msnm in the Andean-Patagonian region of Argentina. We study the production of brotes and hojas, the survival of leaves and the distribution in the plant of the aerated biomass produced during a growth station in this species. The emergence of brotes and trees begins on December after flowering, when the trees and other shrubs in the bosque have produced their crops. The growth of the brotes extended for less than a month. It will mainly produce short cortos (7-38 for the plant, 54-91% of the short stems of the plant) of 5-8 mm in length, the majority of the tails will be active on the apical meristema (75%) between successive years. These machines represent the 77-96% of the aerated biomass produced annually at plant level. Long brotes (2-6 per plant) also exhibit an indeterminate increase in the persistence of the apical meristema (75%). The emergence of leaves is syncronic in brotes cortos and combined in los brotes largos (sincronic production of a basal vertex and gradual emergence of other hojas at the width of the brote). The crops produced in December survived for 16 months and coexisted with the next leaf cohort for five months until the growth of the plant was finalized. The plants are destined annually for the greatest proportion of uses for the formation of light-capturing organs (hojas=77-96%) for a minimum inversion of the biomass into support structures (talls=1-23 %), for a small production of large brotes and therefore, reduce the exploration of the space surrounding the plant.
