Legend: /: various results according to the study
The amino acid motif that composes the classical selectivity filter of a potassium channel is GYG.
The 2P domain K+ channel present two motifs: P1 and P2.
Most P1
contain a GYG
motif.
G Glycine | Y Tyrosine | G Glycine |
The first exceptions are KCNK2 (K2p2.1, TREK-1), KCNK13 (K2p13.1, THIK-1), and KCNK12 (K2p12.1, THIK-2) that contain a GFG motif in their P1:
G Glycine | F Phenylalanine | G Glycine |
Another exception is KCNK15 (K2p15.1, TASK-5) that contain a EYG motif :
E Aspartate | Y Tyrosine | G Glycine |
Most P2 contain a GFG, except KCNK1 (K2p1.1, TWIK-1) and KCNK6 (K2p6.1, TWIK-2) that contain an unusual GLG:
G Glycine | L Leucine | G Glycine |
The most unusual motif is that of KCNK7 (K2p7.1) with a GLE in its P2 motif. Please note that this channel does not functionally express.
G Glycine | L Leucine | E Glutamate |
